BCM has a multidisciplinary surgical team specially dedicated to the treatment of obesity-overweight. Such equipment in addition to surgeons is formed by endocrinologists, dieticians, gastroenterologists, endoscopists, internists, psychologists and therapists, among others.
Your goal is individualized treatment of obesity globally along with the associated pathologies which the patient has. The surgical techniques used in the case of obesity surgery are minimally invasive. There are three types:
Mixed techniques, such as the gastric bypass, not only reduce the size of the stomach, but also get lower absorption of ingested food by reducing the small bowel functioning is achieved. Its efficiency is higher than restrictive techniques and enables a good quality of life.
In the case diabetes surgery, the use of laparoscopic surgery allows the realization of any of the techniques used today. Similarly, laparoscopy simplifies the postoperative course, improve comfort and reduce the length of hospital stay without compromising the expected results after surgery.
The techniques used are similar (with minor modifications) to those used for obesity, adapted to patients with less weight. Operations that offer better results are mixed (bypass type) as:
• Gastric bypass and laparoscopic Roux,
• The duodenal-jejunal bypass laparoscopically and
• Gastroileal bypass laparoscopically.
In each case, the multidisciplinary team chooses the most appropriate treatment for each patient according to his profile and characteristics.
